The hunt for unleaded avgas ramps up

The hunt for an unleaded replacement for 100LL began in earnest in March 2022 with the first meeting of the Eliminate Aviation Gasoline Lead Emissions (EAGLE) initiative, which brought federal regulators, the oil industry, the aviation industry, and more together to find a solution for the entire general aviation piston aircraft fleet.

Flights still available in B-25 at KISM

New tri-axial accelerometer introduced

The TXA201 utilizes next generation micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) technologies to convert gravitational and inertial forces into a DC voltage output for each of the three axis requirements — lateral, longitudinal, and vertical — for flight data recorders and flight data acquisition units, according to company officials.

Something old, something new-ish

Breaking in a new engine requires heightened focus, along with some parameters for the first few hours of flight: Stay below 5,500 MSL to assure the engine can run at 65% power or better. Only conduct cross-country flights of an hour or more in duration. Full stop landings. No touch-n-go pattern work. No stalls and recoveries. Limit use of idle power to start up, taxi, and landing. And of course, use mineral oil exclusively for this break-in period.
