Free Upset Recovery Webinar Series Launches

By General Aviation News Staff · June 9, 2026 · Leave a Comment

The Upset Prevention and Recovery Training Association International (UPRTA International) goes live at 2 p.m. Eastern time June 17, 2026, with the first webinar in its free series designed to reduce Loss of Control In Flight.

The first webinar, “The Unified Upset Recovery Strategy,” tells the story of modern UPRT programs and recovery strategies through the voices of the industry pioneers who helped drive efforts to eliminate loss-of-control in-flight events, according to association officials.

Experts will present UPRTA International’s Unified Upset Recovery Strategies, a framework that compares and synthesizes guidance from the FAA, ICAO, IATA, and OEM sources to help pilots and training organizations apply a common, safety-focused approach to upset recovery.

Speakers include:

  • Paul “BJ” Ransbury, CEO of Aviation Performance Solutions (APS), a leader in Upset Prevention and Recovery Training (UPRT) and Loss of Control In-flight (LOC-I) mitigation. A past president and co-founder of UPRTA International, he is a former fighter pilot, airline pilot, eight-time Master Certified Flight Instructor, and former Chairman of the NBAA Safety Committee.
  • Capt. David Carbaugh, president of UPRTA International, is one of the industry’s most respected leaders in upset prevention and recovery training and operational safety. Following his military service, he spent nearly three decades at Boeing, flying every major commercial model and serving as Chief Pilot for Flight Operations Safety. He co-chaired the industry team that created the Boeing Upset Recovery Training Aid, wrote pilot training materials, and led the development of instructor programs and safety standards adopted worldwide.
  • Capt. Clarke “Otter” McNeace serves as Vice President of Flight Department UPRT at UPRTA International, where he leads initiatives to strengthen upset prevention and recovery capabilities within professional flight departments worldwide. A former military instructor pilot and senior airline training leader, he is also Executive Vice President of Compliance & Standards at Aviation Performance Solutions, bringing more than 30 years of experience in advanced flight instruction, safety leadership, and UPRT.
