Indiana Teen Wins Flying Musicians Scholarship

The Flying Musicians Association has chosen Cameron Milleman of Muncie, Indiana, as its 2026 Solo Scholarship recipient.

“I’m so excited to start my flight training this summer thanks to the Flying Musicians Association,” he said, noting that without the scholarship he “wouldn’t be able to reach for my dream of becoming a private pilot before I graduate high school.”

A high school junior, Cameron is an award-winning pianist and trumpeter and has twice been selected for the Indiana Music Education Association’s honor band. He has received the Carl A. Spaatz Award in the Civil Air Patrol cadet program and plans to attend the USAF Academy or Purdue University to pursue a degree in aeronautical engineering or professional flight.

FMA officials report that 42 high school students applied for the scholarship this year, representing 23 states, as well as Canada.

Applications for the 2027 Solo Scholarship will open in the fall of 2026. The scholarship covers roughly 15 hours of dual instruction, up to the first solo, online ground school, training materials, and additional products from sponsors.
