Shadin Avionics has received TSO approval on the initial release of the flyTab Aircraft Interface Module (AIM), a data converter that integrates an iPad into the cockpit accessing real time flight data for iPad applications. The AIM was developed in collaboration with the Avionics & Systems Integration Group (ASIG, LLC) as a part of the flyTab Class 2 Electronic Flight Bag solution.
“This is the first box of its kind to receive a TSO certification. The AIM has opened a new realm of possibilities for real time flight data and we look forward to pioneering iPad cockpit integration with our partner, ASIG, and the rest of the flyTab team,” stated Brad Jacobson, Shadin Avionics AIM Product Manager.
The current model AIM provides an ARINC 429 interface for two iPads from a single unit. Based upon Shadin’s Avionics Interface Systems (AIS) converter platform, additional interfaces such as ARINC 429, RS-232, RS-422, RS-485, discrete, and MIL-STD-1553 data can be easily added and certified. Potential iPad EFB App uses for this data include aeronautical charting, own ship position, chart centering, FMS/GPS information (position, altitude, groundspeed, track, origin, flight plan and destination, time), real time weather, ACARS messaging and customer/third party applications specific applications, using the flyTab SDK developed by SpatiOS, and AppOrchard company.
