Air Racing legend Sherman Smoot died Sept. 2, 2022, when his highly-modified Yak-11, “Czech Mate, crashed near Shafter Airport-Minter Field (KMIT) in California during a test flight in anticipation of the upcoming Reno Air Races. He was 74.

Who’s Who in aviation featured at National Aviation Heritage Invitational

28 new pilots certified to race at Reno

The 2022 Pylon Racing Seminar for the Reno Air Races saw 28 new pilots certified to race in September, including three in the Unlimited Class. Additionally, 53 pilot renewed their certifications.
