An agreement has been inked between officials with the Recreational Aviation Foundation and Gila National Forest in New Mexico to increase access to five backcountry airstrips: Beaverhead, Jewett Mesa, Me-Own, Negrito, and Rainy Mesa.

I set a goal for myself to fly seven days in a row while surpassing the 300 hour total flight time. This was the scenery that greeted me on day seven. I did cross the 300 hour mark. What really caused the problem was that I allowed my impulse to not allow the helicopter pilot’s politeness to be wasted, to override my initial decision to go around, and attempted to salvage a touch and go landing from an unusual position, in an intentionally tight pattern that offers minimal margin for correcting off-nominal altitude and speed.
