ASTM working on standards for hybrid-electric engines

“This proposed standard is intended to support companies that are creating hybrid-electric power generation systems for use as the primary source of electrical propulsive power in electric aircraft,” says ASTM member David Eichstedt. “They will benefit from a more clearly-defined certification path, but aircraft developers will also benefit.”

Ian forces new date for fly-in

Originally planned for Oct. 1, EAA Chapter 534 had to postpone its Fly-In/Drive-In Pancake Breakfast at Leesburg International Airport (KLEE) in Florida due to the wrath of Hurricane Ian. The fly-in is now scheduled for Oct. 29.

Picture of the Day: A mind-bending message

A bit of foreshadowing or mind-bending? Of course, I had to check the dessert menu because the message became like the jingle that once heard you can’t seem to push it out of your mind!”

The fate of World War II surplus aircraft

Thousands of war surplus aircraft were scrapped after World War II, many salvaged for their engines, parts, and aluminum. By removing aged warplanes from the scene entirely, the aircraft industry and the military did not have to contend with some in Congress who might be attracted to false savings with old airplanes versus the development of state-of-the-art new aircraft.

From air show to car show to boat show

FAA activates new GPS-guided routes in Alaska to fly below hazardous weather

William Vergonet submitted this photo and note: “This grandfather was over the moon to take his granddaughter flying. I was lucky enough to capture the moment when they returned. They both couldn’t have had bigger smiles! When I presented the grandfather with these pictures he teared up and said, ‘Now these are moving, thank you so much!’ I could not have been happier as the mechanic of this aircraft and the photographer.”
