Pictures of the Day: Planes at Oshkosh

By General Aviation News Staff · July 26, 2022 ·

During the week of EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2022, which began July 25 and runs through July 31, more than 17,000 planes will fly into Wittman Regional Airport (KOSH) in Wisconsin. Photographer Geremy Kornreich captured just a few of those planes at the beginning of the week.

The ultimate investment

By Jamie Beckett · July 26, 2022 ·

Rather than putting tens of thousands of dollars into a sports car to assuage our fear of aging, why not learn to fly? Rather than taking on six figure debt to upscale into a bigger, more expensive house in an effort to impress the Joneses, wouldn’t we be better off to invest just a small fraction of that amount in ourselves?

Video: ATC at OSH

By General Aviation News Staff · July 26, 2022 ·

Ever wonder what the tower at Oshkosh is like during the week of the show? Check out Fred Johnsen’s video, which chronicles the bustling radio communications as FAA controllers talk with pilots and each other to safely move huge numbers of airplanes through the airspace around Oshkosh. The familiar call from controllers to pilots: “Rock your wings” is an Oshkosh staple, allowing controllers to positively identify aircraft they are communicating with.

I also wouldn’t rely too much on ATC to provide traffic information in busy airspace, even on IFR flight plan.

Pictures of the Day: The show before the show

By General Aviation News Staff · July 25, 2022 ·

While EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2022 officially kicked off Monday, July 25, the grounds at Wittman Regional Airport (KOSH) in Wisconsin were buzzing with activity the weekend before. Ace aviation photographer Geremy Kornreich captured these scenes of some of that activity:

Quieter than a dishwasher

By Ben Sclair · July 25, 2022 ·

I’ll even hazard a guess that quieter aircraft would tamp down the pressure to close or restrict operations at the nation’s airports. It might even lower the heat on “getting the lead out” of avgas.

Pre-show storms batter Oshkosh grounds
