The woes of winter
Regardless of what you think constitutes uncomfortably cold, winter brings risks to us all. That’s true when driving over a combination of packed snow and ice to an intersection near the bottom of a downhill grade, and it’s true when we climb into an airplane to fly through that thick, clear winter air.

Young Eagles tops 57,000 flights in 2023
More than 57,000 youngsters had a Young Eagles flight in 2023. The flights were all made possible by 4,493 pilots from 616 different EAA chapters.
Tailwheel scholarship offered for fourth year
The scholarship will award $1,000 in cash and $1,000 in credit towards flight training towards a tailwheel endorsement to one female pilot. Training will take place at Quad Cities International Airport (KMLI) in Moline, Illinois, in a 1946 Piper J-3 Cub.
Water contamination leads to crash at KWHP
The pilot’s inadequate preflight inspection during which he failed to remove all water contamination in the fuel system, which resulted in a total loss of engine power on takeoff. Contributing to the accident was the condition of the fuel caps, which allowed the water to enter the fuel system.
