David Bernacki submitted this photo and note: “My observer Willam Ballard caught a beautiful image of a single pop-up thunderstorm off of Edisto Beach, South Carolina, during a US Coast Guard Auxiliary Maritime Observation Flight. I was piloting a Maule M-5-210C at 1,000 feet about five miles off the coast as part of our mission.”

The California Capital Airshow is usually held in the fall, but organizers shifted the date in 2024 to bring the Italian Air Force’s flight demonstration team, the Frecce Tricolori, to Northern California air show fans.

Crimson Edition King Air unveiled
The order book is open for the new “Crimson Edition” King Air, which features a new interior and a red and silver exterior paint scheme. Deliveries will begin in 2025, according to company officials.
Pilot doesn’t realize he caused near miss in pattern
While I was tying down my airplane, the lead pilot from the flight of two aerobatic airplanes drove up and introduced himself. He informed me that I had been party to a near miss on the downwind leg. I apparently cut off another airplane and that airplane descended below my flight path. I never saw another airplane in the pattern.
