The International Aircraft Dealers Association (IADA) is accepting applications from students for business aviation scholarships through Sept. 1, 2021. Grants funded by the IADA Foundation range from $1,000 to $5,000.

Pathways to Aviation recognized for its Career Readiness Certification Program
Pathways to Aviation is being recognized for the career readiness certification system it designed to train and guide high school and college students toward aviation and aerospace employment. Launched in 2020, the system makes career readiness training more accessible for all students at no charge.
FAA accepts avionics technician apprenticeship program
FAA approval gives companies “another tool to grow their own and successfully recruit, train, and retain qualified technicians,” said Mike Adamson, AEA president and chief executive officer. “It is another critical step in our industry’s ongoing workforce development efforts and offers a new career pathway where individuals can simultaneously earn a competitive wage, gain knowledge with structured learning and on-the-job training, and achieve industry-recognized credentials.”
Giving students valuable hands-on experience
Beginning in the 2021 fall semester, the helicopter, valued at more than $500,000, will provide approximately 100 students in the Avionics and Airframe programs with an opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge in the inspection, maintenance, and repair of a fully rigged helicopter, including its electronic, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.

Hometown celebration planned for 100th anniversary of Bessie Coleman earning her wings
It was 100 years ago when Bessie Coleman, born in Texas and raised on the South Side of Chicago, was smitten with flight. But she could not pursue her dream to become a pilot in the U.S. because of her race. That didn’t stop her. On June 15, 1921, she became the first African American and Native American pilot in the world by earning a pilot’s certificate from the French Fédération Aéronautique Internationale.
Aspiring drone pilots can now train remotely at Embry-Riddle
Ian Kerr, who is in a master’s program in aeronautics, recently flew a $5,000 Embry-Riddle drone located in Idaho to perform an aerial survey of a cemetery from his home in Seattle. Another crew member participating in the flight, Casey McGuire, was located at his home in Las Vegas.
Helping A&Ps learn their craft
The donation is the largest in-kind donation the Texas college has ever received. SWAT also will provide a scholarship for students studying to be A&Ps and avionics technicians.
