Air Race Classic opens annual Air Derby to all pilots

For the first time, the Air Race Classic Air Derby is open to both male and female pilots “in response to popular demand.” Registration for the one-day flying proficiency event opens July 15, 2023.

100 women pilots set to compete in annual Air Race Classic

For the 2023 race, 42 teams, consisting of 100 women pilots from across the United States and around the world, will take off at 8 a.m. June 20 from Grand Forks International Airport in North Dakota, for a 2,684-statute mile competition across 12 states that ends June 23 at Miami Homestead General Aviation Airport in Florida.

Pulitzer Electric Aircraft Race postponed

Economic conditions and “a strong priority by the aircraft manufacturers on product development and certification hampered” the National Aeronautic Association’s ability to secure the necessary sponsorships to hold the race in 2023, according to NAA officials.

Registration for Air Race Classic 2023 opens Jan. 3

The planned route includes stops in Mankato, Minnesota, Ottumwa, Iowa, Kearney, Nebraska, Herington, Kansas, Ponca City, Oklahoma, Sulphur Springs, Texas, Jonesboro, Arkansas, Pell City, Alabama, Cross City, Florida, and end in Miami, Florida.

Electric aircraft race in the works

Pre-registration is now open for the first Pulitzer Electric Aircraft Race, planned for May 2023. The race will be a four-day, 1,000-nm cross-country race beginning in Omaha, Nebraska, and ending near Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.

The Airshow Racing Series premiered at the 2022 Wings Over North Georgia Airshow, described by producers as drag racing with airplanes, featuring the drama of flat-out racing, combined with the smoke, sound, and high-G maneuvers that air show fans crave.
