Call To Action: Support Utah Backcountry Airstrips
The Recreational Aviation Foundation has issued a call to action asking pilots to submit comments supporting access to 10 Utah backcountry airstrips. The Bureau of Land Management is currently evaluating the sites, and public feedback is critical before the Sept. 3, 2026, deadline.
Updated Multiengine Rating Oral Exam Guide Now Available
The guide, which aligns with the Airman Certification Standards (ACS), contains new and expanded content on multiengine operations, aerodynamics, inoperative engine procedures, aircraft systems, maneuvers, and instruction. Additional checklists, briefing guidelines, and resources for understanding aircraft performance, limitations, and minimum equipment lists help prepare applicants for the FAA Airplane Multiengine Land checkride, according to ASA officials.
Pilot Loses Control During Water Landing
Probable Cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain control of the airplane in gusty wind conditions while flying low over water, which resulted in the floats impacting a wave and the airplane’s subsequent nose over into the water.
