Texas A&M University has been chosen to establish the FAA’s new Center for Advanced Aviation Technologies (CAAT), which will focus on the testing and integration of new and emerging aviation technologies, including drones and Advanced Air Mobility (AAM).
The FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024 required the FAA to develop a CAAT that included an airspace laboratory, flight demonstration zones, and testing corridors.
According to FAA officials, 28 proposals were received from across multiple states.
Officials says Texas A&M was selected to manage the center because of its:
- Proximity to major international airports and an FAA regional headquarters
- Existing infrastructure for advanced aviation technology testing
- Strong academic programs and industry partnerships
“From drones delivering your packages to powered lift technologies like air taxis, we are at the cusp of an aviation revolution. The CAAT will ensure we make that dream a reality and unleash American innovation safely,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy.
