The FAA has partnered with Tulsa Community College and the University of Oklahoma to launch the Enhanced Air Traffic-Collegiate Training Initiative (AT-CTI), aimed at expanding the air traffic controller training pipeline.
Graduates from these programs will bypass the FAA Academy in Oklahoma City and head straight to an FAA facility for training, provided they pass the Air Traffic Skills Assessment and meet medical and security requirements, according to FAA officials.
This initiative is part of the FAA’s push to reverse workforce shortages and improve safety by increasing the number of trained controllers. In 2023, the FAA hired 1,500 controllers and more than 1,800 in 2024.
The FAA will continue hiring this year, with a new application period starting Oct. 11, 2024.
