Palm Beach State College and Aviation Connection USA Corp hosted 20 teens during an Aerospace and A.I. STEM-based summer camp at the college’s campuses in Palm Beach Gardens and Lake Worth in Florida.
The summer camp, which ran from June 3, 2024, to July 3, 2024, provided students in grades 8 to 10 with an immersive, hands-on learning experience, covering the dynamics of flight, including lift, weight, drag, and thrust, according to officials.
The summer program included the chance for students to fly flight simulators and drones, as well as build radio-controlled airplanes.
They also got the chance to fly with CFIs from SkyBlue Aviation, logging one hour of flight time during the camp, according to officials.
“After seven years of sharing our passion with thousands of students in Canada, we are thrilled to bring this unique program to middle and high school students in the U.S.” said Catherine Tobenas, general manager for Aviation Connection Canada. “The camp not only provided valuable knowledge about aviation but also inspired students to explore careers in the aerospace industry.”
Thanks to a grant from the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, the camp was free for the students, officials added.
