The public schools in Newark, New Jersey, have launched an aviation program through a partnership with the Aviation Institute of Maintenance (AIM) of Teterboro, N.J.
The partnership with AIM is set to launch in the spring of 2023 for eligible graduating seniors, with plans to expand to full-time enrollment of Newark students at AIM, according to officials with the Newark Board of Education.
AIM is certified by the FAA and graduates hundreds of aviation maintenance technicians every year, education officials noted.
“The aviation industry has many opportunities for career advancement and we intend to make them available to our students,” said Superintendent Roger León.
The Newark Public Schools, the largest school district in New Jersey, dates back to 1676. The district has more than 38,000 students in 62 schools.
