More than a dozen volunteers from the Recreational Aviation Foundation and Montana Pilots Association met at Meadow Creek USFS Airport (0S1) in Montana to prepare the backcountry strip for the summer flying season.
During the annual work party, held June 18, 2022, volunteers brought chainsaws and cut many of the standing dead trees that had fallen onto the aircraft parking area over the winter.
“After those were cleared, we removed some standing dead that could fall into the parking area,” said RAF Montana Liasion Scott Newpower said.
Volunteers also got rid of the weeds around cones and facilities, filled gopher holes, and cleaned the outhouse and bear box, he reported.
As has been tradition, Ry Keller of the Kalispell EAA Chapter 102 provided a steak lunch for everyone.
Meadow Creek lies adjacent to the Bob Marshall Wilderness. If you do fly in and camp by your plane, officials advise you to be “bear aware” and keep anything that could attract bears secured in the bear box.
