If you had the chance to design your perfect aircraft, what would it look like?
What would power it through the sky? Would it be big or small? What special features would make pilots and passengers excited to be in the air?
Those are the very questions asked in the 2022 Young Artist Contest from the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (World Air Sports Federation).
Kids from nine countries — China, India, Latvia, USA, Japan, Finland, Lithuania, Poland and Switzerland — entered their works of art.
Winners included Japan’s Haruto Hirayama, who won a gold medal in the Junior category, after also winning a gold medal in 2021.
The one that really captured my attention was Ami Chiba’s masterpiece, which FAI officials say is a “beautifully simple idea that won silver in the intermediate category.”
