Comp Air debuts six-seater

Now in development at Comp Air is an experimental sport utility aircraft, the Comp Air 6.2.

“With a fully carbon composite construction, the CA6.2 provides an aerodynamic airframe large enough to comfortably seat six adults, plus baggage,” company officials said.

The single-engine piston high wing will be powered by a Lycoming IO-580 engine.

“The fixed landing gear gives the aircraft the ability to take your 2,000-pound useful load into rugged terrain where you are unable to take a retractable gear aircraft,” company officials said in a prepared release.

Officials estimate it will take about 1,500 hours to build the aircraft, noting a builder assistance program is available.

Projected cost is $150,000 for the kit, which does not include engine or avionics. A finished aircraft will cost around $300,000, officials report.

First flight of the CA.2 is expected before the end of 2022.

Since its founding in 1990, CompAir has sold 520 kits, with about 400 flying.

  • Maximum Range: 840 nm @ 6,500 feet with Reserve
  • Service Ceiling: 15,700 feet
