Plans are underway for an aviation-themed Little Free Library at the Doc Manget Memorial Aviation Park at the DeKalb-Peachtree Airport (KPDK) in Georgia.
A Little Free Library is a “take a book, return a book” free book exchange. They come in many shapes and sizes, but the most common version is a small wooden box of books. Anyone may take a book or bring a book to share.
The KPDK Little Free Aviation Library will be modeled after the airport’s iconic World War II hangar, once home to Navy airplanes, and now in use by EPPS Aviation.
Organizers note they have “selected a series of titles focusing on aerospace and STEAM subjects, and we look forward to growing the collection with suggestions and additions from the local community.”
The estimated cost of building the custom designed library, buying age appropriate aviation themed books, establishing a reserve to replace non-returned books, and the registration to the Little Free Library Foundation is $1,000. The Georgia Air & Space Museum is coordinating the fundraising for the project.
The library will be listed on the national Little Free Library website, which lists the locations of Little Free Libraries across the country.
