EAA Chapter 241 in Dekalb, Ill., held its annual pancake breakfast the first Sunday in June. With the P-51 “Dream Maker” as a back drop, Gus Graves was introduced as this years’ recipient of the Dr. Wilbur O. Thompson Flight Training Scholarship before the several hundred people who were enjoying breakfast despite a relentless rain throughout the event.
Gus is a 2015 graduate of Sycamore High School and was enrolled at the Kishwaukee Education Consortium aviation program while taking flight lessons at Fly America at DeKalb-Taylor Municipal Airport.
He said he will use the scholarship money to complete his flight training toward his private pilot certificate this summer. He plans on enrolling in the Kishwaukee College flight program this fall.
