Researchers at Purdue, Western Michigan, and Kent State universities are conducting research on Weather Technology in the Cockpit sponsored by the FAA’s Partnership to Enhance General Aviation Safety, Accessibility and Sustainability (PEGASAS) Center of Excellence for General Aviation.
The researchers invite general aviation pilots to participate in the survey to find out the types of meteorological information used by the aviation community, the procedures pilots use for weather avoidance, and the types of training they receive. The survey is available now through July 31.
The survey results will be used to better understand GA pilot preparation and decision-making, with a focus on continued VFR flight into instrument meteorological conditions, and how pilots utilize equipment to make safe and timely weather avoidance decisions, according to the researchers.
Eligible participants must be at least 18 years old and be an active GA pilot. All participants will be required to complete a consent form prior to taking the survey. To ensure participant anonymity and confidentiality, no names, identification numbers, or company names will be collected.
