WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn. – The New England Air Museum is hosting its “Flights & Fantasies” Quilt Show from Sept. 16-22.
This non-juried show will give visitors the opportunity to view an array of more than 150 quilts to be displayed among the museum’s collection of more than 80 historic aircraft and dozens of related exhibits.
There will be quilts of all themes including Dear Jane quilts; a Sandy Hook Tribute quilt; Sue Reich’s Botanical Quilts; and a Miniature Quilt Challenge “Flights & Fantasies.”
This special one-week only event is free to visitors with paid museum admission. Although it is not a juried show, there will be a viewer’s choice winner.
Renowned quilt maker Sue Reich will present a lecture on Saturday, Sept. 21. There will be 10 vendors on site on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 21-22.
The New England Air Museum is the largest aviation museum in New England and is a private, non-profit educational institution that was organized in 1959. Three larger hangars and an outdoor display contain more than 80 aircraft with permanent exhibits that include the oldest surviving aircraft in the U.S. – the 1870 Silas M. Brooks Balloon Basket, as well as an S-39 Amphibian plane – the first aircraft built in Connecticut by aviation pioneer Igor Sikorsky. Featured year-round are many historical aircraft and exhibits including a focus on World War II’s Tuskegee Airmen, and a display about Amelia Earhart alongside a Lockheed Model 10 Electra – the same type of plane flown by the female aviator. Owned and operated by the Connecticut Aeronautical Historical Association, it is on the North end of the Bradley International Airport airfield in Windsor Locks, Conn.
