Belfort Instrument Co. recently installed an AWOS AV at the Johnson County Airport (6A4) in Mountain City, Tennessee.
The Belfort Automated Weather Observation System (AWOS AV) provides pilots with Wind Speed, Wind Direction, Wind Gusts, Temperature, Humidity, Dewpoint, Altimeter Setting, Density Altitude, visibility and cloud height. The Airport AWOS information is accessible via VHF at 126.22 MHz and telephone 423-727-4365 as well as over the internet at Digiwx-6A4.com
“The Belfort AWOS AV helped the airport solve a siting problem,” said Dave Garris, Johnson County Airport Manager. “We had a standard AWOS III on leased land because of the required 3- foot wind tower obstruction clearance. The lease payments were increasing and, as a result, the Tennessee Aeronautics Division helped the airport install the Belfort AWOS AV with ceilometer within the airport property boundaries, thereby decreasing the lease payments. Our new AWOS allows the airport to continue all of the normal flight operations without restrictions. It was a win-win for all concerned. “
