KALAMAZOO, Mich.—In honor of Black History Month, the Air Zoo is holding a special presentation about the Tuskegee Airmen on Feb. 19 at 2 p.m.
Paul Love, an official torchbearer of the Tuskegee Airmen, will give a multimedia presentation about the history and significance of the Tuskegee Airmen, the first African-American airmen in the U.S. military. A meet and greet opportunity will follow.
The Tuskegee Airmen were a part of the “Tuskegee Experiment,” the Army Air Corps’ program to train African-Americans to fly and maintain combat aircraft during World War II. They included pilots, navigators, bombardiers, maintenance and support staff, instructors, and all of the personnel who kept the planes in the air.
The Tuskegee Airmen presentation is included in the price of general admission.
The Air Zoo is a nonprofit organization located at 6151 Portage Rd. in Portage, Mich. It is an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution and offers a restaurant, gift shop and banquet facilities. General admission is $8 per person. Unlimited rides and attractions may be purchased with a wristband package (Ultimate Ace-$15, Junior Flyer-$12, Co-Pilot-$8), which includes general admission, or tickets can be purchased individually for rides. Children who are 4 years old or younger are free.
