We recently asked pilots on our Facebook page to share the story of their first solos. Here’s Scott Peterson’s story: “Dec. 8 was the 30th anniversary of my first solo. It took me 7.1 hours and I did that in a Traumahawk. That first solo landing was one of the best I ever made, even with the crosswind.”
“My wife made me a hanging memory box with my shirt tail, license and medical. For the background I have the original VFR chart I used back then.
“One engine out over water, one total electrical system failure and one blown tire later I still have that original love and fascination of flight I had as an 18-year-old. Since I was 3 I dreamed of being a pilot. I literally remember I’m living that dream every time I get into the cockpit.”
