Taste of Flight Gala slated

By Janice Wood · August 7, 2011 ·

The 5th annual Taste of Flight Gala at Planes of Fame Air Museum in Chino, Calif., is slated for Oct. 22.

Guest of honor will be Louis Zamperini: Olympic Hero, WWII B-24 Bombardier, B-24 crash survivor, and POWm who despite all this went on to build a successful life in postwar America. Zamperini went from being captured and interned as a POW in WWII Japan to carrying the Olympic Torch for the 1998 Nagano Winter Games past Naoetsu where he was interned as a POW. Planes of Fame wishes to extend special thanks to Cannon Aviation Insurance for underwriting Zamperini’s appearance and Ace Clearwater, a Planes of Fame Taste of Flight Gold Glass Sponsor.

The gala will include a wine and specialty beer tasting featuring wines from Bella Luna Winery, Jack Creek Cellars, Venteux Vineyards, Pianetta Estate Vineyard, Zin Alley Winery and Ivy Glen Vineyard as well as specialty beers from Anheuser-Busch. There also will be an auction, with a number of one-of-a-kind items, including a signed copy of “Unbroken,” Laura Hillenbrand’s book on Louis Zamperini’s life.

A limited number of tickets will be sold for $125 per person with VIP table sponsorships available for $2,500 and up. Table sponsors will be invited to a special VIP reception with Mr. Zamperini starting at 5 p.m.
