In late May, it was reported that the California Fuel Club would be soon offering autogas at the Reid-Hillview Airport of Santa Clara County (RHV), one of the largest general aviation airports in the San Jose area. The Turlock, Municipal Airport (O15) near Turlock, also plans to begin autogas sales around August of this year.
Word reached us last week that a group of pilots in the Merced area has formed the company Clear Gas, LLC to supply airports, marinas and race tracks in California with multiple grades of ethanol-free, lead-free autogas. The individuals behind these efforts have gained support through the free Aviation Fuel Club which your bloggers launched in January of this year with the sponsorship of U-Fuel of Elk Mound, Wis.
With two lawsuits related to avgas from the California-based Friends of the Earth and the Center for Environmental Health poised to move forward this summer, news that airports in the state now have an alternative to avgas could not have come at a better time.
