HelpFourPaws, an animal transport rescue organization, based at Florida’s Saint Augustine Regional Airport (SGJ), rescued more than 770 animals last year. This year, the group hopes to double that number, according to Elliot Mintzer, executive director.
Mintzer has been named to the organization’s 2011 Board of Directors, along with: Kathryn Mackenzie, Vice President; Barry Ford, Director of Rescue Operations; Karen Mattison, Director of Volunteer Coordination; Ashton Seckinger, Director of Social Media; Tas Wheeler, Director of Fundraising; Vicki Dolder. Secretary; and Cary Green, Director of Flight Safety.
In 2010, HelpFourPaws rescued more than 772 animals from being put to sleep in shelters across Florida. Those animals were then transported to groups such as Wags and Whiskers in Saint Augustine where they were put up for adoption. The Rocko Fund was also established to help animals in medical need.
“2011 will be a year where we are hoping to double our rescues,” Mintzer commented. “Running aircraft is expensive but is the only way to logistically move these animals out of harm’s way quickly.”
The group also uses “Road Warriors” to do short road rescues, he said, noting 100% of all donations go to save animals. The staff at HelpFourPaws are all volunteers.
