Pennsylvania invests $10 million in airports

By Janice Wood · November 15, 2010 ·

Seven airports can make upgrades and safety enhancements with the aid of a $10 million state investment from PennDOT’s Aviation Capital Budget/Transportation Assistance Program, Governor Edward Rendell announced last week.

The program is funded through state capital bond dollars in the General Fund budget. The grants, which are authorized by the General Assembly, are administered by PennDOT’s Bureau of Aviation.

Airport improvement grant recipients include:

  • Pittsburgh International Airport — $3 million for the final phase of a project to construct a deicing storm-water treatment facility.
  • Altoona-Blair County Airport — $750,000 to build new hangars and rehabilitate existing ones.
  • Bradford County Airport — $200,000 to construct T-hangars.
  • Quakertown Airport — $850,000 to acquire property for airport development and to install a new fuel facility.
  • Lehigh Valley International Airport — $500,000 to renovate the airport’s existing terminal building.
  • Philadelphia International Airport — $3.7 million to rehabilitate the existing runway 9L/27R pavement.
  • Washington County Airport — $1 million to move an existing T-hangar to a new location to facilitate future development at the airport.
