Pure-Gas posts new record as 100LL slowly disappears

By Kent Misegades · November 2, 2010 ·

The GAfuels Blog is written by two private pilots concerned about the future availability of fuels for piston-engine aircraft: Dean Billing, Sisters, Ore., an expert on autogas and ethanol, and Kent Misegades, Cary, N.C., an aerospace engineer and aviation journalist.

Despite pressure from the ethanol lobby Growth Energy and recent EPA approval of E15 for newer vehicles, many Americans and Canadians continue to prefer ethanol-free fuel for their vehicles.  The website PURE-GAS.org surged ahead recently, posting a record 375 new listings in October.  While the number of stations removed was also high, the total net number of listings continues to rise sharply. On a more sobering note, AirNav’s listing of FBOs providing 100LL leaded Avgas dropped by another seven last month to 3,531, while the number of FBOs offering Mogas dropped from 109 to 107. For a listing of airports providing Mogas, see FLYUNLEADED.com
