Forecasted high winds, along with rain showers and gusty winds in Missouri, prompted the decision by the Flight for the Human Spirit mission control team to cancel the takeoff planned for Monday morning from the America Jet hangar at the Salina Municipal Airport (SLN).
“I had set this date almost two years ago, but had no idea what the weather would be like,” said pilot Michael Combs from the America Jet hangar where his Remos Light Sport Aircraft, “Hope One,” is located. “Now that the day has arrived, we just need to fine-tune the takeoff around the weather so that we have a safe beginning to an inspiring flight.”
Combs will fly his aircraft into all 50 states, stopping in 135 cities and towns across the US, and logging more than 19,400 miles.
