At last week’s South Carolina Aviation Association conference, a very special award was bestowed to Greenville resident William “Will” Arthur Demet, Jr. The 5-year-old is the association’s youngest lifetime member.
The youngster loves to “work” on planes when visiting the Greenville Downtown Airport (GMU), using his flashlight and screw driver. Introduced to aviation by his “Pa Pa,” Hank Brown, president of Greenville, Donaldson, and Camden Jet Centers, the young Demet soloed a “pedal version” airplane at the age of 2. His last three birthdays were celebrated with hangar parties at Greenville Jet Center.
Rosylin Weston, public relations director for Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport (GSP), emphasized the importance of youth when presenting the award, then challenged all in attendance to introduce aviation to a young person this year.
