What do you do when you work for an aviation industry battling politics, stagnate business travel and a subdued economy and you happen to win a $1,000 prize during a trade conference?
Well, if you’re Lisa McCabe – who won a $1,000 WingPoints Rewards Card from Phillips 66 Aviation during the 21st Annual National Business Aviation Association Schedulers & Dispatchers Conference last week in San Antonio – you give it away.
McCabe could have redeemed those WingPoints for debit or gift cards online at WingPoints.com. WingPoints can be earned on aviation fuel purchases at participating Phillips 66 FBOs.
Instead, McCabe, president of Fort Collins-Loveland jetCenter at Fort Collins-Loveland Regional Airport (FLN) in Colorado, donated the $1,000 WingPoints card to NBAA CARE (Corporate Aircraft Response in Emergency) for their efforts to aid Haitian earthquake victims.
“When Bruce Youtsey of Phillips 66 called out my name, I was thrilled to bits, as this gave me the chance to pay forward their generosity,” explained McCabe.
McCabe’s gift may surprise some, but donations are something Phillips 66 planned for when it introduced WingPoints in 2008, company officials note. The rewards program makes it simple to donate points online to charities such as EAA’s Young Eagles or Angel Flight.
The 2010 S&D conference – an educational resource for those who coordinate the use of business aircraft – tallied its third highest attendance ever, according to the NBAA.
