Florida’s Kissimmee Gateway Airport (ISM) has completed three projects totaling $2.5 million.
The Warbird Adventures Hangar II includes a 12,000-square-foot maintenance hangar and 5,000-square-foot office. Warbird Adventures, an aviation business located at the airport, matched a grant the airport received from the Florida Department of Transportation to fund the $1.1 million project.
Also recently completed is the WestOne Hangar, which includes a 6,400-square-foot hangar and office space for use in pilot training. Orlando Flight Training occupies the building. The business provided matching funds to the airport for an FDOT grant and additional dollars to fund the $525,000 project.
The North Quadrant Fuel Farm project included removal of the airport’s existing underground fuel tanks and replacement with above-ground tanks to comply with an end-of-year deadline from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. FBO Signature Flight Support provided matching dollars to a grant the airport received from FDOT to help fund the $680,000 project, in return for use of the tanks under a lease arrangement.
ISM is located eight miles from Walt Disney World and 10 miles from the Orange County Convention Center. It accommodates general aviation 24 hours a day with two paved runways, 5,000 and 6,000 feet each. The airport also offers full-service FBOs, flight training, aircraft storage, aircraft restoration, P-51 Mustang pilot training, T-6 Warbird adventure flights and an industrial park. Its air traffic control tower operates from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Built in 1942, Kissimmee Gateway Airport is owned and operated by the city of Kissimmee.
