For more than six decades, the Hinson family has operated an aviation company in the Baltimore area. They have weathered various recessions, including the current one.
According to a recent story at Maryland Community Newspapers Online, the current downturn is buffeting Maryland’s airports, both large and small, and the businesses that operate out of them and depend on their activity, including Hinson Corporate Flight Services.
The story notes that:
Fewer flights by Wal-Mart executives and Joe Pilot in his recreational single-engine plane mean less business for companies such as Hinson’s. While the maintenance part of his business is doing OK, areas such as on-demand charters and aircraft sales have taken a hit. And he doesn’t know when those revenues might rebound.
“It’s slow, real slow,” said Hinson, whose grandfather, John Hinson, ran one of the first flight-training facilities for the Army out of the former Harbor Field. “The economy is going to have to improve for business to get much better.”
