Wisconsin plans to celebrate its Centennial of Flight this year with a series of events sponsored by the Wisconsin Aviation Hall of Fame (WAHF), including construction of a quarter-scale model Curtiss “Warner” Flyer similar to the one that first flew in Wisconsin in 1909.
WAHF has joined with EAA Chapter 60 of Beloit, Wisconsin, for construction of the model. The EAA chapter was asked to participate because Arthur Pratt Warner made Wisconsin’s first flight in Beloit on November 4, 1909. Chapter members will complete the model in time to unveil it at the Wisconsin Aviation Conference, May 4 to 6 at Eau Claire. Additional centennial events include statewide and Beloit-area aviation history presentations, a traveling exhibit of the model, and a WAHF membership rewards program. More details will be announced soon, said Michael Goc, a WAHF board member.
