Roscoe Morton, widely known as the chief announcer at Sun ‘n Fun and EAA AirVenture air show events, received the Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award on Dec. 13.
The Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award is a nationally sanctioned FAA award for active senior pilots. Named for Orville and Wilbur Wright, it recognizes a lifetime of safe flying for pilots who have been active for at least 50 years and who also meet strict eligibility requirements. Recipients are given a certificate signed by the FAA Administrator and a special lapel pin identifying the special achievement. Additionally, each has his or her name inscribed on the Roll of Honor at FAA headquarters in Washington, DC.
The Wright brothers first flew their pioneering Wright “Flyer” on December 17, 1903, at Kitty Hawk, NC. The 2008 Wright Brothers Master Pilot award ceremony, held at the FAA Production Studios at Lakeland marked the 104th anniversary of that monumental event.
