Want to fly “Fifi”?
The B-29/B-24 Squadron of the Commemorative Air Force has launched the B-29 Endowment Program, where private pilots can obtain flight training in the world’s only flyable B-29, “Fifi.”
This is a rare opportunity to obtain a type rating in this one-of-a-kind aircraft, best known for ending World War II with the delivery of the atomic bomb, according to CAF officials, who note there are fewer than 10 pilots in the world with recent B-29 time.
This endowment program also applies to the B-24 the Squadron operates, known as “Ol’ 927,” which is the longest, continuously-operating warbird in the world and one of only two of its type still flying.
In exchange for a tax-deductible contribution to the endowment, donors will receive a week of ground school in either aircraft, as well as 10 hours of instruction in “Fifi” or “Ol’ 927,” with the opportunity to receive type ratings in these historic airplanes. Additionally, the donor will become an aircraft sponsor and receive lifetime membership in the CAF.
Spaces in this initial program are limited to 10.
Donations are $290,000 for the B-29 and $240,000 for the B-24.
Pilots must have a multiengine rating and flight time of at least 1,500 hours.
