The airframe may look familiar, but the name has changed. The aircraft kit manufacturer formerly known as Four Winds has returned under the name of VX Aerospace.
“We took over the company in December,” explains VX Aerospace CEO Robert Skillin. The company is now based at Morganton-Lenoir Airport in North Carolina.
The four-place aircraft, which has four doors, is a high-wing composite.
“You’ll notice that our aircraft has more room in it than a Cirrus or a Columbia, the two top-selling piston aircraft at this time,” he said. “Basically we made a flying SUV.”
The company brought two aircraft to Sun ‘n Fun. One was the prototype with a distinctly patriotic design featuring the American flag.
“We call that our ‘flag ship,'” quipped Richard Bow, the director of flight operations.
One of the key selling points of the model, according to Skillen, is that there is no wing strut. “People don’t like having to be acrobats to get into an aircraft,” he explained.
The company has a builder’s assist program that complies with the FAA’s 51% rule. Price of the kit ranges from $195,000 to $235,000.
