For many adventurous pilots, crossing the United States is an adventure they would like to undertake, but would prefer to share with other pilots. Air Journey is planning a transcontinental journey of 1,960 nm starting July 31 and lasting until Aug. 11.
The journey begins in Waupaca, Wis., and ends in California. On the way you’ll see Mount Rushmore, Yellowstone National Park, Canyonlands National Park, the Grand Canyon, Lake Mead, Hoover Dam, Death Valley, Yosemite National Park, and the Golden Gate Bridge.
Cost per person: $4,295, plus a plane registration fee of $425. Pilots must have a valid license and 200 hours. An instrument rating is recommended.
The price includes a tour leader who will facilitate clearances, refueling, flight planning, and provide help with any difficulty that might arise; lodging for 11 nights; all breakfasts and most dinners; admissions to all planned group sightseeing; briefing prior to every flight covering all aspects of the flight; and a trip kit that includes navigation log (airports, route, frequencies, airspace information, nav-aids, reporting points and flight plans) tailored for each aircraft, VFR charts, IFR low or high en route (based on aircraft type and pilot’s preferences), DOD approach plates, bag and a souvenir shirt.
