Consolidated Aircraft Coverings has just completed an extensive revision and expansion of its aircraft recovering manual, which focuses on Ceconite fabric and Randolph dopes and paints.
The book is designed to take any homebuilder or restorer through the entire process from covering an aircraft to the final coat of paint.
The book opens with a section on Getting Ready, which addresses space, equipment and material needs, along with health issues. Then it takes the builder/restorer through such steps as airframe prep, cutting and gluing Ceconite fabric, rib stitching, drain grommets, initial and final coats of paint.
“The manual on Ceconite fabric and dope has been around for almost a half century,” said Jon Goldenbaum, vice president of Consolidated. “Though the materials have not changed significantly in that time, the approaches to using them have been modified. The book is now longer and we believe it’s easier to follow. There’s greater detail to remove any guesswork from the process, and even occasional dashes of levity to make it interesting.”
