Columbia Air Services has acquired the assets of Lakeland Air Service, Inc., at the Lakeland Linder Regional Airport (LAL) in Florida.
With the acquisition, Columbia Air Services-LAL becomes the fifth Columbia FBO location and the first in the Southeastern United States.
The company plans to build new expanded facilities at the Lakeland airport, including a new 20,000 to 30,000 square foot hangar near the air traffic control tower and a new FBO building. Construction is expected to begin later this year.
Columbia also will continue to operate the Lakeland Air Academy, a Part 141 flight school previously owned by Lakeland Air Service. Columbia plans to upgrade aircraft operated by the school.
