Florida is well-known for its great flying weather. That weather also makes it ideal for golf.
There are more than 1,000 golf courses throughout the state. And while courses may be getting crowded now as snowbirds head South, one tourism official notes that from May through October golf courses “are never crowded, so you can pick your tee time and be assured of a leisurely round.”
There are several resources to find just the right course, including EFloridaGolf.com, FGolf.com, TeeTimesUSA.com and more. Type Florida golf into your search engine for hundreds of results.
Many golf courses cater to pilots, so don’t be shy about asking for special discounts or deals.
For example, you can fly into St. Lucie County International Airport (FPR) at Ft. Pierce and the folks at Fairwinds Golf Course will pick you up in the special “fly in golf” tiedown area at the north end of the airport, says Matt Baum, Fairwinds general manager and head golf professional. “The pilot must call in advance with his or her ETA and we will have someone waiting in the designated fly in golf area to shuttle the pilot via a golf cart,” he explains. “Pilots may call for tee times up to two days in advance.”
The golf course, designed by Jim Fazio and owned by the county, was recently voted one of the top three golf courses on the Treasure Coast.
