Petersen Aviation, Inc.’s auto fuel STC for the Piper PA-28 series has been amended to include the Cadet, Warrior II and III and Archer II and III.
Newer PA-28s with 12- or 24-volt electrical systems can now take advantage of an STC previously limited to older 12-volt models. The amendment closes the gap between PA-28s built in the 1970s and 1980s and more recently produced airplanes. Once modified, these airplanes can use 91 octane (minimum) automotive gasoline.
Modifications include the installation of redundant electric fuel pumps and installation of revised fuel system plumbing made from steel and stainless steel fittings. All 24-volt airplanes also require the installation of voltage converters and accompanying wiring looms.
The STC is shipped with the tubing bent to fit and attached to the fuel pumps as an assembly. Wiring looms for 24-volt models are also prefabricated. Installation on 12-volt models takes approximately four to six hours. Installation on 24-volt models takes approximately twice as long.
Price is $3,475 for 24-volt models, while the STC for 12-volt models sells for $2,475.
