Voters in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, have rejected an amendment that would have changed the city’s charter to require a vote of the people before any improvements could be made at Lee’s Summit Municipal Airport (LXT).
Supporters of the measure touted it as a way for voters to have more say in how their tax money was spent.
Opponents argued that it would make it very difficult to make improvements at the airport because of the time it would take to set up elections. They also noted that the constant ballot measures that would be required would cost taxpayers too much money. The amendment failed by a vote of 5,904 to 4,670.
