When George Christie was 16 years old, aviation was in its Golden Age. Armed with a $5 Kodak camera, the young aviation buff had plenty of opportunities to take photos of his favorite thing — airplanes — and the personalities who flew them.
Some of his favorites include shots of the Boeing Clipper at Lake Washington in the summer of 1938 and a DC-4 at Clover Field in Texas, also in 1938.
Prized photos include those from a 1953 visit from Charles and Anne Lindbergh to Christie’s home in Red Lake Falls, Minn., in September 1953. In one photo, we see Charles Lindbergh preflighting a Lambert Monocoupe.
“”My mother was Eva Lindbergh Christie, Lindbergh’s half-sister,”” explains Christie. “”She, Anne Lindbergh, my sister and I were at the fence at left.””
